Assumption University of Thailand (AU), through the Institute for Research and Academic Services (IRAS), Albert Laurence School of Communication Arts, Student Affairs, and the Central Library, brought the “AU Earth Hero” program to Wat Sukantawas (Kamolnavin) School, on September 11, 2026, engaging young learners in energy conservation, environmental awareness, and sustainable practices through fun and hands-on activities.
The program is part of AU’s ongoing Energy and Environmental Conservation Project for Communities Surrounding the University, which aims to enhance knowledge, understanding, and environmental awareness among young people while encouraging efficient energy use, waste reduction, and the responsible use of natural resources. This year marks the second implementation of the project, with activities taking place at Wat Sukantawas (Kamolnavin) School.
The event began at the school’s Activity Court with welcoming remarks by Mr. Pradit Prasanpim, School Director, followed by a project report delivered by Dr. Pornpop Saengthong, Director of the Institute for Research and Academic Services (IRAS), Assumption University. The official opening was presided over by Rev. Bro. Sirichai Fonseka, f.s.g., Ph.D., President of Assumption University.
The program featured an interactive icebreaker workshop on environmental conservation, introducing students to the importance of conservation and the principles of the 3Rs—Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle. Through fun and interactive learning, students explored simple ways to save energy, reduce waste, and use resources more responsibly in their daily lives.
The highlight of the program was the “3R Adventure Station – Trash-Cutting Quest,” a team-based activity that encouraged students to put their knowledge into practice. Through a series of fun challenges, students developed problem-solving and teamwork skills while learning practical approaches to waste reduction and environmental responsibility.
The initiative extends beyond the activities held on the day. As part of the broader project, AU supports the school with energy conservation campaign materials and related equipment to encourage continued environmental awareness and action. The Central Library also contributes to creating a learning environment that supports sustainability through library landscaping, an energy conservation corner, and the provision of book baskets and educational resources.
Through this initiative, AU seeks to extend its knowledge and community engagement beyond the University campus and inspire young people to become active participants in environmental conservation. The University hopes that continued efforts at Wat Sukantawas (Kamolnavin) School will contribute to its development as a model for energy and environmental conservation and a learning hub for sustainability, with the potential to share knowledge and inspire positive change within the surrounding community.
